Berlin-based Curses blends brooding new wave and driving post-punk with ghostly vocals, razor-sharp guitars, and flashes of 80s EBM and new beat—like a dancefloor séance somewhere between a smoke-filled club in 1984 and a Berlin basement at 4am.
Their debut album, 'Romantic Fiction', released in October 2018 on Jennifer Cardini’s Dischi Autunno, introduced the project’s dark romanticism and quickly evolved into a high-energy live show. Performing as a duo, Curses brings the album’s guitars, vocals, and shadowy atmosphere to the stage.
Whether performing live at the late Andrew Weatherall’s Convenanza Festival or DJing the main room at Circoloco DC-10, Curses delivers the same signature blend of punk attitude and dancefloor propulsion. From intimate clubs to sprawling festival stages, the mission stays the same: dark 80s spirit, modern club pressure.
Curses has released music on labels such as Hoga Nord, Bordello A Parigi, Throne of Blood, and their own imprint Ombra International, and is well known for weaving live guitars and instrumentation into his productions and remixes.
In 2021, they curated the double-vinyl compilation NEXT WAVE ACID PUNX for Eskimo Recordings, a love letter to the darker corners of club culture—celebrating New Beat, early EBM, Post-Punk, and Italo.
