Michele Mercure’s artistic path never ran through creative meccas like New York, San Francisco or Los Angeles. Instead, the musician found her calling in a local and lively theatre in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. She was twenty years old when she was asked to score an unorthodox performance of ‘Waiting for Godot’. She began making music for film, television, dance and theatre, but it wasn’t until later – during a prolonged stay in Eindhoven – that she became transfixed by the early electronic music. The eighties brought along many self-released cassettes that circulated through tape-trading networks and insightful reviews.

Long deemed lost forever, some of the sounds from these tapes got compiled on last year’s ‘Beside Herself’, an anthology of Mercure’s arresting dream music. Her night-lit, minimal synthesizer music expresses an ambitious vision and voice rising from the undiscovered landscapes of electronic music in the eighties. Michele Mercure might not be the name that catches your eye on the line-up, but we strongly advise you to give this experienced artist more than a fair chance.

''She takes you on a trip combining minimalistic, adventurous and simplistic music, enriched with tape loops, violin, guitar, bass and xylophone.''
- Written in Music

''You’ll find the cool synthesizers and beautiful samples, storytelling through pop gestures, an apparent dedication to technological and aesthetic experimentation.''
- Boomkat
